This paper aims to explain the important incidents and influential people in Arabs in the novella Salma> written by G�zī �Abdurraḥm�n al-Quṣaibī. This study used Riffaterre�s semiotic theory by using one of semiotic method, that is heuristic and hermeneutic reading. The result of this research showed three conclusions. First, the meaning of the sentence �history is nowadays� is an advice for the readers in general and especially for Muslims to prepare for their future by learn from their past. Second, it is an appeal for the readers in general and especially for Muslims to be people who have intelligence, strength, courage, and loyalty, so they can avoid the bad things. Third, it is an appeal for the readers in general and especially for Muslims to keep on guard toward informations in the mass media, because mass media could be a means for some people who have certain importance to form the public opinion.
