Summary:Caries and periodontal desease are caused mainly by dental plaque. Both of these can be prevented. One of the prevention strategies can be done by providing dental health education. Deaf children have a problem of hearing deficiency or loss of ability to hear well, therefore they need education that is specifically designed. Dental health education for deaf children can use a teaching method in the form of cartoon animation. This study aimed to determine the effect of media cartoon animation of Dental Health Education (DHE) to changes plaque score in deaf children. Subjects consisted of 25 people in SLB B Karnnamanohara. The study was conducted by providing dental health education in the form of cartoon animation for 5 days. Examination was conducted on the three stages of early plaque score before treatment (plaque score I), plaque score one week after treatment (plaque score II) and plaque score two week after treatment (plaque score III). Data was analyzed by Friedman, followed by Wilcoxon. The result showed that there was a significant difference (p<0,05) between plaque score mean before treatment (plaque score I) with plaque score mean after treatment (plaque score II and plaque score III). In conclusion, cartoon animation of Dental Health Education had an effect in decreasing plaque score in deaf children.
