Description
Summary:Palatal height based on Korkhaus is a vertical distance from the upper of palate until the surface of occlusal of maxillary first molar, which is also one of the components in measuring the depth of curve of spee. The objective of this research is to find out the relation between palatal height based on Korkhaus method toward the depth of curve of spee among the Javanese. The subject of this research are 31 Javanese students of Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada, class of 2006-2009, comprise of eight male students and twenty three female students. In maxillary dental cast model, palatal height was measured using sliding calipers with the tool of palatal height guider. Meanwhile, curve of spee was measured using sliding calipers in mandibulary dental cast model. The analysis of Pearson correlation upon palatal height and depth of curve of spee shows that there is a positive relation between the two variables (p>0,05). The result of linear regression analysis shows that palatal height has significant influence toward depth of curve of spee (p<0,05). The coefficient of determination obtained is 0,192. It shows that palatal height contributes 19,2% to the depth of curve of spee while 80,8% is influenced by other factors beyond palatal height. In conclusion, there is a positive relation between palatal height and depth of curve of spee, i.e. the higher the palate, the deeper the curve of spee among the Javanese.
