The dynamics of disaster risk management has been through the era of mainstreaming vulnerability assessment as part of the agenda to shape preparedness and reducing the possibility of loss and victim as early as possible. Vulnerability assessment has an important role to reveal community condition both their weakness and their capacity in order to cope with disaster risk, including cold lava flooding disaster. This research has the purpose to explore Prawirodirjan community vulnerability as one of the district where River Code flow in Yogyakarta City region. River Code is one of the several channels where cold lava from Mount Merapi frequently flow. Analysis toward Prawirodirjan community vulnerability focusing more to the social aspects that seldomly approached by any vulnerability assessment research. Components that being assessed including demographic sector to see the community structure, and capacity sector to examine experience and culture developed to face River Code cold lava flooding disaster. Vulnerability assumed as a process constructed using Pressure And Release Model (PAR). The method used in this research is descriptive-qualitative method with fenomenology approach so that it can differ from any other similar research. Research finds that viewed either from demographic or internal capacity. Prawirodirjan community has a low vulnerability index. Community structure categorized as very well and doesn�t need an intensive interest althoughit has a very high population density. In other side, Prawirodirjan community has been living in that area for a very relatively long time it even transforms their experience of facing River Code cold lava flooding automatically into internal capacity so they recognize river�s behavior and able to overcome the susceptibility of River Code cold lava flooding disaster risk. As a process, the root cause of Prawirodirjan community condition that less fortunate then altered with dynamic pressure into utilization of internal capacity so it can create a relatively safe condition for Prawirodirjan community itself.
