| Summary: | Poopoh beach is located on the northern coast of North Sulawesi has some
ecosystems such as mangroves and sea-grass beds. The Coastal area of north
Sulawesi itself has high diversity of invertebrate, including Echinodermata. This
research aims to study the diversity, distribution, and abundance of Echinoids and
Holothuroids in Poopoh beach, and its influencing factors. Sampling was
conducted in April 2013 using transect quadrate method of 1 x 1 m
2
quadrat size
in 4 stations. Free sampling method was also conducted to complement diversity
data. In each quadrate plot, Echinoids and Holothuroids abundances were
recorded, and its environment factor such as salinity, temperature, and pH were
also taken. Ecological numeric character of density, frequency, important value
index, and diversity index were calculated and analyzed. The results showed that
at Poopoh beach was found 7 species of Echinoids and 9 species of Holothuroids.
The Echinoids abundance was higher than Holothuroids abundance with the most
dominating species of the Echinoids are Echinometra mathei and Diadema
setosum. Two dominating species of Holothuroids are Holothuria atra and
Holothuria hilla. The diversity indices of Echinoids and Holothuroids are 1.66
and 1.54. Salinity and pH are still in the range of tolerance for Echinoids and
Holothuroids, except temperature. The diversity, distribution, and abundance of
Echinoids and Holothuroids in Poopoh beach is influenced by microhabitat. |
