Summary: | Water has to fulfill certain quality standard in order to be used. The water
Dusun Sambeng 1, Kecamatan Srandakan, Kabupaten Bantul could not be used
due to its high content of Fe. After being tested in laboratory, it is known that the
water has Fe content of 2.0 mg/l. Peraturan Menteri Kesehatan No. 416 Tahun
1990, required that quality standard of clean water must not exceed 1.0 mg/l. The
goal of this research, is determine the best filter composition , so that the water
will fulfill the quality standard in term of Fe content.
In this research, aeration and filtration method are used. Aeration is done
by using aquarium aerator. Filtration is done by two filter media, that is activated
sand and beach sand with thickness variation. The variation of beach sand
thickness are: 25, 30, 40 and 50 cm. The variation of activated sand are: 10, 20
and 25 cm. Operation parameter of initial filtration rate is 7m/hour. Initial Fe
content is 2.0 mg/l. The aeration is done for 3o minutes and 60 minutes. Filter
operating time is 3 hour.
The result of this research show that after 30 minute aeration time with
activated sand thickness of 20 cm and beach sand thickness of 30 cm gives the
best result. The filter could reduce initial Fe content from 1.99 mg/l to 0.85 mg/l
after being processed, with aeration and filtration system efficiency of 57.41%.
The processed water has been able to fulfill clean water quality standard, with Fe
content below 1.0 mg/l. |
