Praseno, Sp. MK, ETD Background : Treatment given to patient with lung disease due to rapidly growing mycobacterium (RGM) infection in Indonesia is still not appropriate. Antibiotic drugs for patients with lung disease due to RGM infection are different from patients with lung disease due to Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Rifampicin is an antibiotic commonly used for the treatment of tuberculosis, while amikacin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic used widespread as a therapeutic agent of bacterial infection which is expected to be active against rapidly growing mycobacterium. Objectives: To determine the effect of amikacin and rifampicin against RGM by in vitro method. Method : This study is an descriptive observational study using macrobroth dilution technique in vitro. The materials used were amikacin, rifampicin, and 7 RGM isolates collection of Department of Microbiology Faculty of Medicine Gadjah Mada University. Results : From 7 tested RGM isolates, 86% isolates are sensitive with MIC range <0.98 7.81 µg/µL and 14% isolates are resistant with MIC 23.44 µg/µL to amikacin, while 100% isolates are resistant to rifampicin with MIC range 5.91 - >15.75 µg/µL. Conclusion : RGM isolates are more sensitive to amikacin rather than rifampicin. [Yogyakarta] : Universitas Gadjah Mada 2014 Thesis NonPeerReviewed , ADELIA ULYA RACHMAN and , dr. Praseno, Sp. Background : Treatment given to patient with lung
disease due to rapidly growing mycobacterium (RGM)
infection in Indonesia is still not appropriate.
Antibiotic drugs for patients with lung disease due to
RGM infection are different from patients with lung
disease due to
Mycobacterium
tuberculosis. Rifampicin
is an antibiotic commonly used for the treatment of
tuberculosis, while amikacin is an aminoglycoside
antibiotic used widespread as a therapeutic agent of
bacterial infection which is expected to be active
against rapidly growing mycobacterium.
Objectives: To determine the effect of amikacin and
rifampicin against RGM by in vitro method.
Method : This study is an descriptive observational
study using macrobroth dilution technique in vitro. The
materials used were amikacin, rifampicin, and 7 RGM
isolates collection of Department of Microbiology
Faculty of Medicine Gadjah Mada University.
Results : From 7 tested RGM isolates, 86% isolates are
sensitive with MIC range <0.98 7.81 µg/µL and 14%
isolates are resistant with MIC 23.44 µg/µL to
amikacin, while 100% isolates are resistant to
rifampicin with MIC range 5.91 - >15.75 µg/µL.
