Description
Summary:Background : The presence of biofilm are associated with chronicity of an infection, recurrence of infection, and resistance to antibiotic chemotherapy. Biofilm is thought to be one of the causes of treatment failure in chronic suppurative otitis media infection. Pseudomonas sp, especially P aeruginosa, is a gram-negative bacilli that cause CSOM and it have ability to form biofilm . Objective : detecting the ability of biofilm production by Pseudomonas sp causes of CSOM (Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media). Method dan Material : This study used descriptive observational method. Biofilm formation test was conducted qualitatively by CRA method using freeman scale and quantitatively by TCP method. Samples were obtained from middle ear secretion of patients with CSOM in ENT polyclinic, Dr. Sardjito Hospital, during October- Desember 2012. From that samples, 6 isolates of Pseudomonas sp that were tested, 4 of 6 isolates (66.67%) were P aeruginosa and 2 of 6 isolates (33.33%) were P fluorescens. Results : From 6 isolates, none of biofilm (0%) which can be detected by CRA method. Biofilm were present in 6 isolates (100%) by TCP method and Pseudomonas sp have ability to form strong biofilm (OD > 0.177). Conclusion : Pseudomonas sp causes of CSOM were bacteria that have ability to form biofilm.
