Description
Summary:Background The result from OSCE in Faculty of Medicine UGM showed that approximately 30% students have not passed. This could be caused by less of students learning motivation prior training or during training. Decrease of motivation causes ineffective training which could lead to poor quality of clinical rotation preparation. Objective Aim of this study is to explore the impact of written pre test and post test on students learning motivation prior and during clinical skills training. Method 63 fourth year medical students (RR = 90%) were divided into two groups: with and without prior notification. Results of pre test and post test were measured and analysed quantitatively to know any differences between the group. In depth interview was conducted to confirm the result and enrich the data qualitatively. Result Group with prior notification had less score than the group without. Further explanation on the underlying cause from qualitative data supported the finding. Internal motivation should be enhanced before external motivation (such as pre test and post test) were given. Written test is preferable as formative assessment in skills training. Conclusion Prior notification for pre test and post test has significant impact on students result indicating its impact on students learning motivation. No significant finding related to the impact of pre test and post test to students learning motivation.
