Risk factors for iron deficiency in children were condition during pre natal, perinatal or post natal ( inadequat intake, infection, growth spurt). Iron deficiency cause decreasing immune response, distrub cognitif development, language, physical, motoric dan psycological in children. Laboratory parameter for diagnosis iron deficiency are hematological and biochemical parameter. Biochemical parameter can detect iron deficiency in early phase, but it is expensive, require special preparation and influenced by inflammation. The gold standart for iron deficiency is painting hemosiderin with Prussian Blue. This methode is invasif, challenging in examination and interpretation, so that not suitable for screening iron deficiency in children. Development flowcytometry technique in automatic hematology analyzer enable examination volume and content reticulocyte cell more acurate. Normally, reticulocyte released from bone marrow ±1-2 day before it become mature erythrocyte, express actual erythropoiesis condition and can detect iron deficiency earlier. The aim of this study is to determine the role of Mean Cell Volume of reticulocyte (MCVr), Cellular Hemoglobin Concentration Mean in reticulocyte (CHCMr), and Reticulocyte Cell Distribution Width (RDWr) for screening iron deficiency in children age 6 months to 5 years in Yogyakarta. Measurement ferritin serum using electrochemiluminescens methode. Result presented in sensitivity, spesificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value.
