LARVICIDAL EFFECT OF ETHER EXTRACT OF PANDAN LEAVES (Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb) AGAINST Aedes aegypti LARVAE
Background: Dengue has become the most common mosquitoborne virus. The dengue transmission can be reduced by controlling the vector. The safety of organic insecticides from plant-degradable has been known. Flavonoid, alkaloid, and saponin in pandan leaves (Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb) have been kno...

The safety of organic insecticides from plant-degradable has been known. Flavonoid, alkaloid, and saponin in pandan leaves (Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb) have been known to have insecticidal activity. Objective: To investigate the larvicidal effect of P. amaryllifolius ether extract and its lethal concentration, LC50 and LC90 against Aedes aegypti larvae and to determine whether increasing dosage concentration of ether extract of pandan leaves result in an increase in the Ae. aegypti larvae mortality in laboratory setting. Method: Various amount of the dosage concentration of P. amaryllifolius leaves ether extract were used against the 3rd and 4th instar larvae of Ae. aegypti. Mortality of the larva was observed in 24 hours of exposure under standardized condition. Result: Log probit analysis of the larvae mortality showed that the LC50 and LC90 were 853.64 ppm and 3091.21 ppm respectively. Conclusion: The ether extract of Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb leaves has larvicidal activity against the larvae of Ae. aegypti with a LC50 value of 853.64 ppm and LC90 value of 3091.21 in laboratory setting. Larval mortality increases as increasing the concentration of pandan leaves ether extract. [Yogyakarta] : Universitas Gadjah Mada 2014 Thesis NonPeerReviewed , QURANI HEMAS NURANINGRUM and , dr.
