الملخص:BACKGROUND:Birth weight is one of the most important health factors to consider during labor because it will affect the mortality and the morbidity of both the mother and the fetus. Predicting the birth weight accurately prior to delivery enables the obstetrician to prevent any unwanted complication that may occur by allowing them to choose appropriate route of delivery. There is no method for directly measuring the birth weight of the fetus in the uterus of the mother. However, clinicians may estimate the weight of the fetus by measuring the biophysical profile of the fetus and physical changes of the pregnant mother. The two methods usually used to estimate the birth weight are ultrasonography and measuring the fundal height of the mother. AIM: The purpose of this study is to compare the accuracy of Risantoâs formula and ultrasonography to predict the fetal birth weight in full term pregnancies to determine if Risantoâs formula is suitable as a replacement for ultrasonography in Indonesia. METHOD: This study employs a cross-sectonal design to compare the accuracy of EFW Risanto and Ultrasonography in gestational age between 37-42 weeks. EFW Ultrasonography is estimated by Hadlock rule. Actual birth weight is calculated by calibrated fetal weighing machine. The differences between actual birth weight and EFW Risanto and EFW Ultrasonography are calculated. Paired T-Test is used to evaluate the significance of EFW Risanto and EFW Ultrasonography. RESULT: Î Mean shown the negative value which means that the Î mean of Risanto formula (151.4grams) was smaller compared to the mean of Î mean of Ultrasonography (179.1 grams), and their difference is 27.8 grams. However, the p-value is 0.082. So there is no statistically significant correlation between Risanto formula and Ultrasonography to predict fetal birth weight. CONCLUSION: There is no statistically significance between Risanto formula and Ultrasonography to predict fetal birth weight. Risanto formula is not superior than Ultrasonography or vise-versa.
