attention recently because of its affect on the quality of human resources. HIV/ AIDS cases are increasing and spreading widely. According to the prediction, in 2015 the number of AIDS cases will be increased from 924,000 to the number of cases with the prevalance rate of 0.49% and will be greatly increased to 2.117 million cases in 2025 with a prevalence of 1.00%. This increase can be prevented to less than half if the target of universal access can be achieved by the year 2014. Internet technology is growing, all the orientation activities on an average are based on internet. Nowadays, one of the applications that has been developed and immensely in demand is facebook. Facebook is one of the web-based social network that is integrated with a variety of applications that are used to communicate with other users, ranging from education, business, and entertainment, all have been developed in this social networking site . Objective : To determine the effect of health promotion using facebook in improving adolescent knowledge and attitudes towards HIV / AIDS prevention. Method : Type of research was quasi - experiment with pretest, posttest control group design. The research sample was 306 students of SMAN 1 Badar and SMAN 2 Kutacane. Instruments used was the form of a questionnaire to measure the knowledge and attitudes of high school students. Health promotion interventions was posted in the form of wall posts as a status message on the facebook page. Analysis of the data was processed using statistical paired t-test and independent t-test with a significant level of p < 0.05. Result : There was a statistically significant difference of p < 0.05 in both groups. Two groups ie case groups and control groups. Although both the groups experienced the significant increase in the knowledge and attitudes but the rate of increase in the group treated with the promotion using facebookwas better than the control group that was simply given the modules independently. Conclusion : Health promotion through social networking sites facebook via wall post message on facebook wall can increase knowledge and change the attitudes of the adolescent towards the prevention of HIV / AIDS.
