Background: Xerostomia is a subjective complaint of dry mouth sensation, which has a high prevalence in patient of type 2 Diabetes mellitus. Various risk factors reported associate complaints of xerostomia such as blood glucose levels, duration of diabetes, salivary secretion rate, age, sex, and drugs. The influence of these risk factors to the complaint of xerostomia in patient of type 2 diabetes mellitus is still widely debated. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze risk factors of xerostomia in patient of type 2 Diabetes mellitus. Analytical observational study with cross sectional approach was conducted in 162 patient of type 2 diabetes mellitus in RSUD Kotamadya Yogyakarta. Identification of xerostomia performed using a questionnaire instrument that identifies the presence of xerostomia. Blood glucose levels are based on the results of the examination fasting and post prandial blood glucose levels. Diabetes duration can be categorized into < 10 years and � 10 years. The diagnose of salivary secretion rate depends on the unstimulated whole saliva on male or female aged <60 years and � 60 years with or without the use of xerogenic drugs. Data were analyzed using logistic regression. Results: The results showed that the p-value for the age factor is 0.002 (p <0.05) with OR = 3.473, while the p-value factor for duration of DM was 0.03 with OR = 0.301 (OR <1). Conclusion: The age factor is the only risk factor in the emergence of a complaint of xerostomia in diabetes mellitus type 2 patient, while duration of diabetes is protective factors.
