Summary:Agriculture sector is still the largest contributor to Garut�s GDP with rice sub-sector as its biggest contributor. In addition, the labor absorption in this subsector is also the largest. Nevertheless, the poverty rate of Garut is higher than the poverty rate of West Java province as well as Indonesia. This poverty is dominated by rural poverty with most population are farmers. Based on these problems, this study aims at analyzing the rice productivity increase in reducing poverty in Garut. The analytical tool used in this study is a panel data regression and yield gap analysis. The data used is panel data of poverty, economic growth, education level, unemployment rate, rice productivity of Garut during 2008-2012, rice productivity of Tasikmalaya, West Java Province, and Indonesia, as well as the rice five farming of Garut and Tasikmalaya. Panel data regression results indicate that productivity of rice has a negative and significant impact on poverty. Based on the yield gap analysis, Garut productivity can still be improved.
