This research will be focused on revealing the common tendency of postmodernism architecture as an alternative in a world of architecture. The reason behind this research comes from the point of boredom over a style of modernism architecture since it is becoming rigid and monotonous. Furthermore, in its universal application, modernism architecture is not really considering the needs of various aspect of human life. The orientation toward rationality and science led to stagnation resulted in a common believe that modernism architecture is no longer able to respond to the needs of human life that is increasingly diverse. Postmodernism architecture features issues which have become the focus on modernism architecture criticism to relive historical, meaning and identity contexts within the local arts and architectures. This research is a literature research with postmodernism architecture as a material object and philosophy of art as a formal object. This literature research is done with methodical steps including: inventory, data classifying, data analyzing, and results composing. Data analyzing use hermeneutics method with methodical elements in the form of an inventorization, description, analysis, and interpretation. The results obtained from this research indicate that postmodernism as architectural and artistic movement has successfully applied their ideas. The modernism idea has made the homogeneous architecture style and therefore reduced the elements of ornaments. This can be solved by applying the basic idea of postmodernism architecture. Correlation between it with the philosophy of art lies in the design which emphasizes the importance of the decorative elements and put the architecture area back on local values in Regionalism movement. Postmodern architecture was about to regrow the identity of a building, the historical value of the building, and the definition of a building designed by the architectural language which cannot be found in modern architecture. In order to connect the world of art and architecture, postmodern idea tracks the dynamics of community life by presenting a visual aspect that is imaginative and fun.
