Yogyakarta has already made a tactile map in scale 1 : 10,000 which made from Swell Paper . Using tactile map in this medium is still not appropriate for the blind, they still feel difficulties in map reading. Based on these issues, there are need an evaluation of tactile map symbols that already exist. This research aims to ( 1 ) determine the design of the symbol tactile map that suit to the aspirations of the blind, ( 2 ) Make a tactile map based on the results of the evaluation.
Tactile map symbols in this study used sampling methods. This research only involves partially blind who are in the Yogyakarta city. Purposive sampling used to choose a respondent on this research, it is only the blind who have an interest in the Yogyakarata city. 60 sampels used in this research, there are 30 people from education group and 30 people from non education group. Perceptions and aspirations data collected by interviewing respondents using questionnaire. The interview results are used to evaluate tactile map and then it were printed on the thermoforming as a printing media.
The result of this research indicate that the tactile map that suit to aspirations of the blind is a symbol which used visual variable simple shape and not too small in size. Besides, it is also necessary to develop a proportional mapping layout system between the main face of the map that equip with information that describes the content of the map.
