Summary: | This thesis examines about the phenomenon of ganguro fashion that
appeared in Japan early 2000. Ganguro is the one of Japanese street fashion which
was widely spread among the young people in Japan. This reaserch aims to find
out the factors of interest ganguro style and postmodernism elements in ganguro,
as well as its influence on other Japanese popular culture products. This research
uses the postmodernism aprroach.
This research uses qualitative methods and descriptive to explain and
describe the ganguro phenomenon. This thesis consist of explanation about
description, history, life style, the reason young people had come to be interested
in ganguro, and postmodernism aspect in ganguro style.
As the result of the research, it is clear that the ganguro style were widely
spread among the younger generation in Japan because its effect of showing and
the influence of hip-hop music performed by black singers. Ganguro contains
postmodernism element that are discontent, rebellion, and changes. These things
can be seen through the fashion style and ganguro gals lifestyle. Ganguro has a
huge influence on other popular culture products such as fashion, anime, manga,
and video games.
