Summary: | In this thesis, the author would like to explain about case against the risk
of developmentalism in Ecuador by using a prominent, notorious and solid
indigenous peoples movement as its level of analysis. This social movement
named FOIN was found as peasant-based movement in Ecuador,at first and
shifted its paradigm to identity based movements using indigenous as its explicit
agenda. This paradigm shift could be elaborate as a typical transformation that
happened in many social movements cases that can be found in Latin America.
This new social agenda would become another exponential agent of change that
trying to oppose social injustice caused by global capitalisme and repressive
goverment policy.
This thesis also would like to offer explanations based on historical
analysis on FOIN to determine what makes the paradigm shift on its social
agendas. Social movements anatomical change would be further explained in this
thesis as their adaptation as new social movement to encounter contemporary
issues in Latin America. Another further explanation about FOIN would be in the
form of its collective instruments that makes FOIN took its stand as a partner of
reformative goverments and national opposition actor when their social demand
had not been concluded and implemented by the government.
FOIN determined themselves as an mediator and advocacy agent for
peasants in case of land reform in Ecuador and later on, widen their works to
become a prominent agent of change for right to self determination, socio
economic right and cultural right for indigenous peoples, specifically. FOIN also
makes demands for multicultural citizenship in Ecuador while in another hand,
trying to reclaim the historical rights for their land. |
