has interaction with coastal protection area. Therefore, it is necessary to discuss
development strategy of coastal protection area management. The research
objectives are to understand: (1) community perception about coastal protection
area management, (2) community interaction with coastal protection area, (3)
Community expectation about coastal protection area, and (4) development
strategy of coastal protection area management.
The research is using qualitative approach with case study as basic method.
Data collection is done through observation, in-depthinterview, and
documentation study while theinformants selection is usingthe snowball
technique. Data analysis of perception, interaction, andexpectationabout coastal
protection area are conducted with Miles and Huberman model through data
reduction, data presentation, and also conclusion making and verification. The
formulation of development strategy of coastal protection area is usingSWOT
analysis.
Coastal protection area serves to protect the natural resources and the
surrounding areasthat need to be managed by communitiesand related
agenciesthrough rehabilitation and protection activities because it is useful to
protect the settlements, fishponds,traditional fishermen and also as the location to
collect clams, charity for the sea and recreation area. Community interaction with
the coastal protection area includes area management, economic and socio-culture
requirements fulfillment. Community expectations in the future arecoastal
protection areamanagement done by the community can be
improved,reinforcement ofinstitutional in area management, community is more
self-reliant and creative in area management, and implementation of evaluation
and monitoring to control the areadevelopment. The strategies to improve area
management are cooperation improvement between the community and related
agencies, optimization of area potential, local cultural tradition, and support of
community to preserve the area.
