Summary: | Sengon (Falcataria moluccana (Miq.) Barneby & J.W. Grimes) is a fast growing species
with short harvested period between 5 8 years. The cultivation of Sengon, either forest society
or forest state can be infected by various disease and one of them is gall rust disease. Gall rust is
kind of dangerous disease in Indonesia currently on sengon caused by fungi Uromycladium
tepperianum. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of regeneration and axial
position towards anatomical and mechanical properties of Sengon (F. moluccana) infected by
fungi U. tepperianum cause gall rust disease. This research used Sengon grown in Cangkringan,
Yogyakarta that infected by gall rust disease.
This research used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two factors are
regeneration and axial position observe at laboratory. Both of Sengons materials are from
coppice regeneration and seed regeneration that infected by gall rust disease. The position of gall
rust disease of sengon from coppice is on base stem and on branch for sengon from seed
regeneration. Observed parameters in this research are anatomical properties are fiber dimension
and cell proportion parameter and also mechanical properties.
The result of experiment with sengon from seed and coppice regeneration grown in
Cangkringan, Yogyakarta shown that seed regeneration of sengon infected by gall rust disease
influence on anatomical properties are cell wall thickness and vessel element while axial position
of sengon influenced on anatomical properties are fiber length, cell wall thickness and vessel
element and both of them was not infected on mechanical properties |
