Summary: | In this era, it is difficult to find people who can speak Javanese appropriately and
understand every word that they said. A lot of parents teach their children using
Indonesian language, so Javanese is seldom used. Even if they can, it is limited to some
words imitated easily which are often inappropriate by Javanese.
This research aims at answering the following questions: a) what the description
of children in Jogjakarta in using Javanese is, b) how Javanese language can be applied in
daily life. To answer these questions, the interview with some children in Jogjakarta from
Elementary School to Junior High School and the questionnaire for parents and teacher
are conducted.
After doing an observation to 39 sixth grade students, it is known that most of
their capability in using Javanese is mediocre because they have habit using Ngoko
Javanese when they speak to elder people. They use Krama Javanese when they are asked
acquaintances. Whereas, parents, teachers, and older sister/brother confess that they
taught Javanese to them. In order to Javanese language can survive, we need government,
institution, community, and family has to use Javanese in their daily life. All elements
must be working hand in hand in surviving Javanese because Javanese cannot continue
without the cooperation of many divisions. |
