Description
Summary:Crime is a problem that must be solved because various kinds of losses that caused i.e economic, physical, moral and psychological. This research aims to analyze the factors that influence crime rate in Indonesia during the period 2007- 2011. The data used are secondary data, a panel data of 30 provinces in Indonesia for five years, 2007-2011. Analysis tool used is panel data regression. The best model chosen is a fixed effect model with the method of generalized least squares (GLS) using cross section weights. The results indicated that the levels of poverty has a positive effect on the crime rate in Indonesia, which means that if the level of poverty increases, would increase the crime rate in Indonesia. The unemployment rate and the expensiveness rate have no effect on the the crime rate in Indonesia. The proportion of the provincial government budgets for the function of order and peace have negative effect on the crime rate in Indonesia, which means an increase in the proportion of the provincial government's budget for the function of order and peace will be a decrease the crime rate in Indonesia. The percentage of active police personnel have negative effect on the crime rate, which means the increase in the percentage of active police would decrease the crime rate in Indonesia.
