Description
Summary:The influence of H2O2 on photodegradation process catalyzed by TiO2 to decrease COD value of wastewater from herbal pharmaceutical industry has been studied. The research was initiated by determination of COD degree and determination of the main component contributing of COD in the waste. The next step was waste photodegradation process which was carried out by irradiating the mixture of wastewater, TiO2 photocatalyst and H 2O2 in a batch reactor equipped with UV lamp for 24 hours. In this research, the influences of TiO2 photocatalyst mass, H2O2 concentration, pH and irradiation time were evaluated. The value of COD was determined with bichromatometric closed reflux titration method. The result showed that herbal pharmaceutical industry contained of cellulose and lignin as main component of COD contributor with initial COD as much as 1960 mg/L. The addition of H2O2 on photodegradation catalyzed by TiO2 could decrease COD value of wastewater effectively. Increasing of TiO2 photocatalyst mass, H2O2 concentration, pH and irradiation time could decrease COD value of wastewater from herbal pharmaceutical industry effectively. The COD value of wastewater from industry herbal pharmaceutical could decrease optimum as much as 359,5 mg/L by using TiO 210 mg, H 2O2 0.2 M, pH 3 and 24 hours of irradiation time. COD value of wastewater from herbal pharmaceutical industry could decrease until achieve the quality standard regulated by the Government, 120 mg/L needed with twice step of photodegradation process with final COD value was 20 mg/L
