Description
Summary:The information about stand growth performances, litter productivity and litter decomposition of some native tree species were important as the main information which will be used in tree species selection for pulpwood raw material. Research was done to obtain those informations. Research was carried out at February 2013 March 2014 in native tree species experimental plot that had 2 3 years old in drained peat land in Pelalawan, Riau. This plot was established using completely randomized block design, with 4 tree species as treatments i.e mahang (Macaranga pruinosa), geronggang (Cratoxylum arborescens) and skubung (Macaranga gigantean) as native tree species and krassikarpa (Acacia crassicarpa) as exotic tree species (control). The growth performance was observed with census. Litter trap method was used to obtain data of litter productivity and its nutrient input to forest floor. Litter bag method was used to obtain data of litter decomposition rate and its nutrient release to soil. Quantified and statistical technique (ANOVA/GLM, Duncan test, correlation and regression analysis) were used as data analyzed method. The results showed that survival rate of native tree species (68,0 90,0%) was significantly (p < 0,05) better than krassikarpa (53,6%) at 3 years old. While, the best growth performance at the same age displayed by mahang with height annual increment were 2,54 m/year and DBH annual increment were and 2,92 cm/year. Its DBH annual increment were similar to unimproved krassikarpa increment, but lower than improved krassikarpa increment. The highest litter productivity and its nutrient input were obtained by geronggang with magnitude 7,04 ton/ha/year and N released 60,69 kgha/year
