Description
Summary:Decreasing phosphorus concentration in laundry wastewater using Al2(SO4)3.14H2O and FeCl3.6H2O coagulants have been studied. In this research the effects of slow stirring time, coagulation pH, and coagulant dosages were also evaluated. In this research the coagulation process was carried out twice to obtain the remain phosphorus concentrations according to quality standard that is below 1 mg/ L. Concentration of phosphorus in the laundry wastewater were determined by using UV-Visible Spectrophotometre method. The research result showed that the most effective decreasing phosphorus concentration using Al2(SO4)3.14H2O and FeCl3.H2O coagulants occurred at slow stirring time was 30 minutes, coagulation pH was 9, and coagulant dosages is expressed as the molar ratio by Al3+: P although Fe3 +: P was 3:1. The remain concentrations of total phosphorus and dissolved phosphorus after second coagulation process using Al2(SO4)3.14H2O is 0.66 mg/L and 0.31 mg/L respectively, whereas using FeCl3.H2O is 0.82 mg/L and 0.56 mg/L respectively, from initial concentrations of total phosphorus and dissolved phosphorus is 59.09 mg/L and 12,09 mg/L respectively. These concentrations of total phosphorus and dissolved phosphorus have been according to quality standar specified. It is also found that Al2(SO4)3.14H2O shows more effective for decreasing phosphorus concentration than FeCl3.6H2O.
