SIGNIFIKANSI KLINIKOPATOLOGIS EKSPRESI CD44 DAN MMP9 PADA KARSINOMA DUKTAL INVASIF PAYUDARA

Background: CD44 expression in breast cancer has been proved can promotes metastatic signaling and acts as a putative tumor suppressor. One mechanism by which CD44 may promote tumor growth and invasion is by regulating MMP-9 function on the tumor cell surface. In mammary invasive ductal carcinoma, o...

Irianiwati, SpPA(K) ETD Background: CD44 expression in breast cancer has been proved can promotes metastatic signaling and acts as a putative tumor suppressor. One mechanism by which CD44 may promote tumor growth and invasion is by regulating MMP-9 function on the tumor cell surface. In mammary invasive ductal carcinoma, overall survival were influenced by several prognostic factors, such as histopathological grade and stage. The role of CD44 and MMP9 related with those prognostic factors and overall survival of mammary invasive ductal carcinoma are still unclear. Objective: To investigate the clinicopathological significance of CD44 and MMP9 expression with several prognostic factors and survival in mammary invasive ductal carcinoma Method: Design of this study was retrospective cross sectional, using 50 paraffin embedded tissue of mammmary invasive ductal carcinoma from Sardjito General Hospital, Yogyakarta. Samples were stained immunohistochemically with monoclonal antibody against CD44, MMP9. Chi square test performed to find out the correlation between CD44 and MMP9 expressions, and their correlation with clinicopathological factors (age, histological grade, tumor size, lymph node status, distant metastases, ER, PR, and Her2 expression). Kaplan Meier test carried out to find out the correlation between clinicopathological factors with Overall Survival (OS). Result: This study found that MMP9 expression was significantly correlated with distant metastases (p: 0,019), but not with age (p: 1,000), histological grade (p: 0,687), tumor size (p: 0,573), lymph node status (p: 0,190), ER (p: 0,616), PR (p: 0,416), Her2 expression (p: 1,000), CD44 expression (p: 0,697), and OS (0,592). CD44 expresion was not correlated with age (p: 0,247), histological grade (p: 0,166), tumor size (p: 1,000), lymph node status (p: 0,846), distant metastases (p: 0,961), ER (p: 164), PR (p: 0,419), Her2 expression (p: 0,704), and OS (p: 0,358). Conclusion: This study suggested that MMP9 expression only has correlation with distant metastases, meanwhile CD44 expression have no correlation with clinicopathological factors studied and OS.
