One of the activities of citizen in Kacamatan Sagulung, Kota Batam is the advance of going to work. To reach their workplace, the citizen use different accommodations of transportation modes. Types of transportation which can be chose are public transport or private transport. The selection of transportation types which take the citizen to their workplace is based on the characteristic of each district zone. Thus, the purpose of this research is to examine the influence of district zone�s characteristics to the choice of transportation modes to workplace used by citizen in Kecamatan Sagulung. This research also indentified which type of transportation between public transport and private vehicle is the most used by the citizen. This research used quantitative method, particularly discriminant analysis with 100 respondents using proportiate stratified random sampling method. Independent variables consist of path to workplace length, population density, distance to bus shelter, distance to the road which public transport pass through and road conditions along with road construction as dummy variable. Thus, it pass significance test to see its influence toward the selection of transportation modes used by citizen of Kecamatan Sagulung to go to their workplace. The results of this research shows that there is no variable from the characteristic of district�s zone can influence the choice of transportation modes used by citizen in Kacamatan Sagulung, Kota Batam. The most chosen transportation modes by citizen to bring them to their workplace is private vehicle, rather than public transport.
