Description
Summary:Teratogenic test of extract sample DLBS5447® (Zingiber majus) on female pregnant rats Sprague Dawley strain review of the fetal skeletal system aims to evaluate the safety extract sample DLBS5447® (Zingiber majus) when it was used on pregnant women, especially during the period of organogenesis. The research was conducted using the rats Sprague Dawley strain of adult virgin female, healthy, weight between 175-250 grams that have estrus cycle regularly. The rats were divided into 4 groups: Group I (control) was given CMC-Na, Groups II, III, and IV were the treatment groups given extract sample DLBS5447® at a dose of 37.8 mg/kg of body weight, 75.6 mg/kg of body weight, 151.2 mg/kg of body weight. The rats were treated orally once a day from the 1st until the 17th of pregnancy. Then on the 20th day of pregnancy, it was performed a caesarean surgery. The fetus was separated from the mother and then observed the fetal skeletal system then analyzed statistical with confidence level of 95%. The results showed that in the group 2 doses (75,6 mg/kg BW) caused rudimentary abnormalities on the vertebrae, while in the group 3 doses (151,2 mg/kg BW) caused partially ossified abnormalities on the sternebra and increased the incidence of carpal not ossified.
