Description
Summary:Plants in Indonesia, is widely used as an alternative medicine, one of which is the yellow wood (Arcangelisia flava (L) Merr). This plant contains alkaloids which have allegedly influential berberine has antidepressant effects with the forced swim test method. This study was conducted to determine the effect of stem extract on immobility time the yellow wood of the white male mice balb-c strain. The method of research using laboratory animals such as mice in the form of 25 divided by 5 groups. During the first week all groups adapted, after the first day up until day 14 all groups of mice were forced to swim for 6 minutes every day. From day 15 until day 28, without forced to swim, negative control group without any extract, only distilled water was given ad libitum, the positive control group was given amitriptyline at a dose of 3.25 mg/kg, the P1 group was given water extract yellow wooden rod with a dose of 78 mg/kg, given P2 extract at a dose of 156 mg/kg, and P3 were given the extract at a dose 312 mg/kgBB. On day 29 made a forced swim test for 6 minutes to measure immobility time of each group. Data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA with 95% confidence level. In the positive control group showed immob ility time was 157.8 ± 7.3 seconds, the negative control group was 213.6 ± 43.7 seconds, the P1 group was 184 ± 17.7 seconds, and the P2 group was 176.4 ± 29.7 seconds, while the group P3 shows the immobility time was 128.6 ± 44.8 seconds. The results of this study indicate that the best antidepressant effects shown in the P3 group of water-soluble extract of the yellow wood with a dose of 312 mg / kg with a minimum of immobility time compared with the other groups. So we can conclude water-soluble extract of the yellow wood containing berberine chloride has antidepressant effect in mice with the forced swim test method.
