In Indonesia, the prevalence of obesity keeps increasing. Based on RISKESDAS 2013, the prevalence of obesity at the age of 16-18 year-old is by 7.3%. The advances in technology and the effect of globalization is suspected to be the originator of obesity incidences due to changes in lifestyle, including eating habits and patterns. One of which eating habits in children and teenagers are formed out of family environment through eating together. The researches on family meals towards obesity in teenagers are still inconsistent. Besides, in Indonesia, there have not been numerous researches on family meals towards the obesity in teenagers. Objective: This research is aimed to find out the differences between family meals pattern and the incidences of obesity in teenagers Methodology: The design of this research was observational by using cross-sectional study design. This research was conducted in January-April 2014 at high schools in Yogyakarta City. The research population was all students at high schools in Yogyakarta City. The number of the samples of this research was 171. Variabels in this research is family meals, dietary intake, socio-economic status, parental obesity status and eating together with friends. The data were analyzed by chi square statistic test and mann-whitney statistic test. Results: There is no significant difference between family meals, with the father only, with the mother only, with other family members, eating out together, the type of diets consumed in family meals, protein intake, the families� socio-economic status, parental obesity status if the father is obese and the mother is non-obese, and eat together with friends in obese and non-obese teenagers (p> 0.05). There is a significant difference between eating out together , energy intake, carbohydrate, protein, fat, the father's education level and parental obesity status if both father and mother are obese and if the father is non-obese and the mother is obese (p<0.05). Conclusion: There is no difference in family meals between obese and non-obese teenagers. There is a difference in dietary intake between obese and non-obese teenagers. There is no difference in eating together with friends between obese and non-obese teenagers. There is a relationship between parental obesity status and the incidences of obesity. There is no relationship between socio-economic status and the incidences of obesity.
