Description
Summary:This study aims to explained using languages in the Javanese wedding ceremony, and linguistic elements that caused the speech discourse have aesthetics of susastra Jawa (Javanese literature). Furthermore, this study will also express the contextes and their changes happening in the wedding ceremony performed by the Javanese people. This study used the discourse analysis that accompanied by the sosiolinguistic approach. This study used the object or data of the oral story about wedding speech (PP: pidato perkawinan) that gathered and documented as long as the study was conducted. The data were documented from the direct stories in the wedding ceremony that performed by the Javanese in the area of Yogyakarta. We fixed this area as the setting of the study because it could be considered as the area where the Javanese language spoken representatively, including the Javanese of the ceremonial speech discourse in the wedding ceremony. The oral data was accompanied with the written data gathered from the manual books of Javanese wedding speech. The written data was used as the comparative data, so that we could see how were the changes and the differences happened between them. The data supplying was conducted in three steps: data gathering, data writing, and data selection. We gathered data using scrutinizing technic or direct observation in the location where the wedding ceremony performed. And then, the data was trancripted in the data document to be selected carefully to get the valid and reliable data. The next process was the data analysis. The selected data was analyzed using the speech discourse approach. This kind of approach was performed to get distinct description about the form and the aesthetic of wedding ceremony discourse. Meanwhile, in order to get distinctness about the contextes and their changes, we used the sociolinguistic analysis that underlied on the story elements suggested by Hymes: SPEAKING. The analysis results performed to the data could describe and explain several problems of this study. First, the spoken language in the wedding ceremony in the Javanese people were the Javanese, the Indonesian, and the mixed language between them called Jawindo (Javanese-Indonesian). In the delivery of speech, this discourse sometimes experienced the indications of moving and mixed codes, and also experienced the story changesor replaces as found in the javanese language. As a discourse form, the wedding speech had some elements that made it complete as a discourse. These were the cohesive and the coherence elements. In the coherence element, it could be present through two categories, explicitly and implicitly. Second, the aesthethics elements used in the wedding speech discourse that we found successfully were called susastra Jawa. Third, the change of the wedding speech discourse was happened because of the change of the underlying context. In this case, the context had the relation with the current situation and atmosphere in the ceremony, change of time, change of the speaker and the other participants. norms, and genre of its language.
