Prajitno, M.T. ETD Population growth is so fast and not followed by the production of clean, potable water. To get a short-term solution some research is done to produce clean water through a simple process that uses a ceramic filter. One problem that often arises is that small production approximately 3 L / hour, research is done to improve the performance of ceramic filters, especially in the improvement of the production. The study was conducted using a rotating ceramic filter with a filter having a length of 51 cm, a diameter of 28 mm, an outer diameter of 65 mm. Discharge flowed into the filter varied namely 0.6, 0.8, 1 gpm (gallons per minute). Each filter operated at 6 variations in the speed of rotation, which is silent, 15.5 rpm, 30 rpm, 41.5 rpm, 59 rpm, and 74.5 rpm. Types of feed water used for this research is the Code River water held in Sleman, Yogyakarta. From the study, it is found that brushing treatment on ceramic filters can reduce the pressure on the filter that slows the formation of fouling and enhance the flux value. Higher rotation speeds can also inhibit the rate of formation of fouling so much slower decline in flux values. Optimal flux values obtained at 1 gpm discharge operated at 74.5 rpm rotation. This discharge has 38.93 L/m2.menit flux in the first minute and 15.23 L/m2.menit in the 90th minute. High flux value is due to take place in a turbulent flow with Taylor Vortex, which can reduce the rate of fouling on the membrane surface.
