Summary: | The main object of this research is Saga no Gabai Baachan, the first novel
written by Shimada Youshichi published in 2004. The novel tells the story of
Tokunaga Akihiro�s adventures when he lived in Saga with his grandmother,
Osano Grandmother. This research analyzed the dialogical relationship in Saga no
Gabai Baachan using Mikhail Bakhtin�s dialogical theory.
The purpose of this research is to show the facts of the story in Saga no Gabai
Baachan through dialogic characteristics. In accordance with the purpose, the
analysis method consists of describing carnivalization in the novel, observing the
composition and situations of the plot, determining the relationships between the
characters and author�s position, determining the representation of ideas, and
showing the intertextual dialogues in the novel.
It can be concluded from the analysis that Saga no Gabai Baachan is a
carnivalesque work that tends to be polyphonic and dialogic. Carnivalization in
this novel can be seen from elements of carnival attitude found in the novel. The
composition of Saga no Gabai Baachan is constructed with syncrisis and
anacrisis elements. From the characters and the author�s position, the characters of
this novel have relationships through consciousness, and the author�s position is
equal with the characters. Based on the analysis of the representation of ideas, it is
apparent that the author�s ideas are meant to carry the dialogue of the thoughts or
other ideas that leads to the effort for freedom of expression and freedom of
thought. Based on the analysis of the intertextual dialogue, it can be seen that
there are some quotations from another �texts� in this novel. |
