Description
Summary:Human Immunodeficiency Virus/ Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) is one of the health problems that becomes a global issue and causes many deaths in the world. There has been no cure for HIV infection. The only treatment using by People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV) is Anti Retroviral Therapy (ART). PLHIVs have to use ART regiment regularly throughout their life. ARV will not give a total cure, but ARV will suppress the growth of HIV so that the CD4 cell count will increase. Therefore, the adherence of patient in taking ARV becomes an important factor for the success of therapy so that the opportunistic infection can be prevented. This study aims to determine the supporting and inhibiting factor in adherence to ARV treatment, especially for PLHIV who is taking first-line antiretroviral therapy. This study uses the qualitative method with PLHIV accompanied by Victory Plus as respondents. Purposive sampling is used as sampling technique. Data were colected by in-depth interviews with respondent in Victory Plus. Data analysis was conducted using conventional content analysis. The main perception of the Health Belief Model theory has a relationship with adherence to antiretroviral therapy. From the data obtained from seven respondents, supporting factors in adherence to first-line ARVs treatment are the perception of worsening health without ARVs (perceived susceptibility)
