Description
Summary:Study of synthetic humin for carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) sequestration and as solution for greenhouse gases emission reduction in agricultural sector have been carried out. The purpose of this study was to characterize synthetic humin, determine the effectivity of synthetic humin for C and N sequestration, and compose a model of C and N sequestration for synthetic humin. Humin KW-1, humin 1:4 and humin 1:6 were used as synthetic humin samples which obtained from extraction of synthetic humus with NaOH 0.5 M solution. Infrared spectrophotometer, X-Ray difractometer (XRD) and analysis for C and N content were used for synthetic humin characterization. Estimation of greenhouse gases emition reduction using synthetic humin based on US EPA calculation and harvest data were use to determine effectivity of synthetic humin for greenhouse gases absorption. The results showed that there were several functional group such as O-H, N-H, C-H, C-O, C=C, C=O and Si-O. Inorganic components in synthetic humin showed quartz as a major component and there were several elements such as Fe, K, Ca, P and M which as macronutrient and micronutrient for plants. Analysis for C and N content showed that C content in biomass and synthetic humin was constant. Nitrogen content in synthetic humin were increasing from biomass and caused decreasing of C:N ratio after manure was added. Aplication of synthetic humin in agricultural field could reduce greenhouse gases emission 18.6 metric ton CO2 equivalent/ha, prevent biomass mineralization 43.94 metric ton CO2 equivalent/ha through increasing soil organic matter, and increased absorption of CO2 6.61 metric ton CO2 equivalent/ha through photosynthesis.
