Summary: | A research on pyrazoline synthesis through chalcone from anise seed oil had
been carried out. Pyrazoline and chalcone were group of compounds which had
been broadly studied lately. Synthesis of these compounds from anise seed oil,
which contains large amount of anisaldehyde (p- methoxybenzaldehyde) using
ultrasonic irradiation would be an eco- friendly procedu re to propose. The research
aimed to study the effect and efficiency of conventional method and ultrasonic
irradiation in chalcone synthesis so that the best method is able to be applied in
pyrazoline synthesis.
Chalcone synthesis was carried out in basic condition. Conventional method
was performed by stirring p- anisaldehyde, acetophenone, ethanol, and NaOH for 5
hours at room temperature, while sonochemistry method was performed by
irradiating all chemicals for with ultrasonic wave for 5 minutes. Pyrazoline
synthesis was conducted in glacial acetic acid in ultrasonic irradiation for two hours.
Conventional method for chalcone 1a and 1b yields 98.50% and 91.87%,
respectively . Chalcone 1a and 1b synthesis u sing ultrasonic irradiation produced
91.20% and 93.99% yield, respectively. Both methods had been proven effective to
synthesize chalcone with good yield where ultrasonic irradiation achieve it in a
significantly shorter time. Pyrazoline 2a and 2b synthesis was givin g 22.99% and
11.58% yield, while in pyrazoline 2b synthesis, the most dominant product was
pyrazole in 50.38% yield . |
