Summary: | This research attempts to identify students� errors and also the sources of
students� errors on the use of prepositions of place. It classifies the errors in the
use of prepositions of place based on its type and function. This research focuses
only on the use of three prepositions of place those are in, on, and at. The
data used in this research were taken from the test containing questions about
the use of prepositions of place in, on, and at. The researcher chooses seventh
graders of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Al-Hamidiyah Depok as the respondents of
the test. Theresults show that from 57 students, the most errors were found in
the use of preposition of place at with total average percentage error 60.45%,
followed by preposition of place on with 57.48% and preposition of place in
with 40.38%. In addition, out of total 34 questions, there were 33 cases of
errors caused by interligual interference. Furthermore, there were 14 cases of
errors caused by over-generalization and 8 cases of errors caused by ignorance
of rule restrictions. The results seem to reflect the ability of the students
which do not clearlyunderstand about the use of prepositions of place. |
