Neurodegenerative is a serious disease which causes high death numbers and reduces the patients� life quality. Beta amyloid is an important marker known exists in some neurodegenerative diseases. One of the potential natural substances is mangosteen peel extract. This research aims to review the ability of mangosteen peel extract to increase cognitive in neurodegenerative condition and eliminating beta amyloid. Test animals were induced neurodegenerative with 200 mg/kg BW for 2 weeks and continued with extract administration for 2 weeks. Animals are divided to 5 groups, which are solvent control, extract dose 70 mg/kg BW, extract dose 140 mg/kg BW, extract dose 280 mg/kg BW, and the group of lansoprazoleadministered only without giving the extract. Morris water maze method is used to see cognitive ability in spatial memory of mice. The amount of beta amyloid is analyzed with Congo red staining. The result showed the extract at the dose of 70 mg/kg BW, 140 mg/kg BW, and 280 mg/kg BW was not able to increase long term and short term spatial memory. Lansoprazol induction is suspected to have less impact in memory spatial activity of mice. Nevertheless, 280 mg/kg BW of mangosteen peel extract could reduce the amount area of beta amyloid significantly.
