Summary: | This research focuses on indigenous of Dayak Benuaq society in the management
of lake (nohen) at Sentalar village, Nyuatan sub district, Kutai Barat regency which aims
to describe the management of nohen by Dayak Benuaq society and the role of customary
law in its management. Fieldwork was conducted in March 2013 and July-August 2013.
Respondents were selected by snowball sampling, with result 46 respondents of Dayak
Benuaq being selected, both inside and outside Sentalar village.
The result shown there are two forms of nohen ownership, that is lake common
property (PU) and individual property (PI). PU and PI of nohen can be used together
based on community agreement. Several forms of nohen management includes mopos,
namely, aquatic plants and vegetation removal from the lake, fish stocking (molump kinas),
and fishing. Utilization controls on nohen were done with petenah, namely, punishments
and regulations that control over fishing, unfriendly environment, and setting fishing
seasons or prohibition of certain fishing seasons (pejarit nohen lengkupkeng). Nohen
management conducted by Dayak Benuaq society emphasizes on tradition and gives
chance to the lake resources to recover naturally so as hopefully remain stable and
sustainable. |
