Description
Summary:This research analyzes setting elements applying a theory stated by Robert Stanton. The setting elements consist of six kinds, they are the environment of its events, visible background, the time of day or year, the climater, the historical period, the people in the background. The function of the setting is to depict themes, characters, and the atmosphere inside and outside the characters. In the novel Persiden, the setting elements are more dominant than the other facts of the story like characters and plots. This occurs because the Persiden is characteristically descriptive. The novel tells many problem but it does not explain its conclusion of the problem. Therefore, the settings illustration and the atmosphere will be shown more to support the storys focus toward social critique of the present Minangkabau society.
