PENGARUH PERBEDAAN JENIS DAN UMUR BAMBU TERHADAP KUALITASNYA SEBAGAI BAHAN MEBEL DAN KERAJINAN

Bamboo has long been used as construction, walls, furniture and crafts. Bamboo can be grown in various areas and some species of bamboo valuable commercial like bamboo wulung (Gigantochloa verticillata (Wild) Munro), apus (Gigantochloa apus kurz) and tutul (Bambusa maculata widjaya). The quality of furniture and craft be affected any factors such as species and age. This study aims to determine the optimal quality workmanship on every species of bamboo and age with the support of the physical properties of materials, physics and mechanics as furniture and handicraft This study was designed using a Completely Randomized Design with two factors, which species factor (bamboo wulung, bamboo apus, and bamboo tutul), and age factors (2 years and 3 years). The examined parameters and supporting information were physical properties, physic properties, and mechanical properties. The data was analyzed by Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) with 1% and 5% of significant level and continued by Honestly Significant Difference Tukey. The results showed overall on all speciess and age classes of bamboo including working class I - II. Supporting information shows the results of the moisture content, with shrinkage, thickness and volumetric including small was adequate as well as mayority medium specific density. Mechanical properties including class II-IV. The physical properties, bamboo wulung and tutul in each age more than the optimal used as a furniture and crafts because it has color, the impression of touch and texture, luster and hardness of adequate use of bamboo apus. Age factors difference specific density, compressive strength parallel to grain, and compressive strength perpendicular to grain while the speciess of bamboo difference significantly on the value of reaping. The quality of processing with support, physical, physics and mechanics properties of bamboo were found to be optimal achieved majority at the age of 3 years. At the age of 3 years more usage opportunities/wider than the age of 2 years for all speciess. At the age of 2 limited used to craft only.
