SEKSUAL DIMORFISME IKAN WADER PARI (Rasbora lateristriata BLEEKER, 1854) BERDASARKAN KARAKTER MORFOLOGIS DAN STRUKTUR ANATOMIS TULANG

Fish consumption target in Indonesia increased every year until 10%. Fish consumption in DIY reach 17,03 kg/capita/year, but this region still deficit in fish production. There is a kind of freshwater fish, called wader fish, that is economically potential but still rarely cultivated. Yellow rasbora...

There is a kind of freshwater fish, called wader fish, that is economically potential but still rarely cultivated. Yellow rasbora (Rasbora lateristriata Bleeker, 1854) is one of wader species found in Yogyakarta. The study on biological aspects of yellow rasbora such as sexual dimorphism very important to support cultivation efforts. This research was aimed to study the morphometry and bone structure differences between male and female wader pari fish (Rasbora lateristriata). Spesimens were collected from the Baros River, Tirtohargo, Kretek, Bantul, Yogyakarta. Seventeen males and 20 females specimens ( 40 mm of standard length) were used in this researh. The specimens were fixed with neutral buffered formalin (NBF) and observed morphologically. Morphometric measurements were based on 39 points of anatomical landmarks on fish. The result of each morphometric measurement were divided with the total length of specimens to obtain the morphometric ratio. The skeleton preparation were done using 96% alcohol fixed specimens and stained with Alizarin Reds Alcian Blue Method (Inouye, 1976). The results showed that the differences between male and female wader pari could be seen through the morphology and skeleton structure. Morphometric observations still show a lot of variety and there were several parameters that indicate measurement similarities between male and female wader pari. The conclusions of this study there was pattern of sexual dimorphism wader pari fish is viewed by morphological character, there are head and mouths shape, width of operculum, shape of dorsal fins cranial, abdomen shape, and serta caudal fins shape. There are differences in the anatomical structure of the bone, ie the difference lies the anal and dorsal pterygiopore also costae orientation.
