Description
Summary:Background: Post-mortem lividity is useful for estimating the time of death. Two factors that play an important role in the degree of livor mortis are blood volume and viscosity. To investigate whether lividity should have been fixed requires clear information regarding the time of death and the time of examination. Such information was commonly found in cases of road traffic accident. Aim: The aim for this study is to determine whether there is a difference between heavy and mild antemortem bleeding with delayed fixing of post-mortem lividity. Methods: This study is an observational analytic study using cross-sectional design. Samples were taken from visum et repertum in the Installation of Forensic Medicine Dr. Sardjito Hospital, Yogyakarta, from 2009 to 2013. Results: Of the 80 victims, 60 (75%) experienced severe bleeding and the remaining 20 (25%) experienced mild bleeding. There are 51 (63.7%) of the victims who had their lividity fixing delayed, while the remaining 29 (36.3%) have their lividity fixed. Based on the statistical results, there is no significant differences between heavy and mild antemortem bleeding with delayed fixing of post-mortem lividity (OR=0.689
