This change affects all components of the existing order in it as a public space. The existence of public space is quite important for a spatial city so that it interested to study more in depth. Sense of Place is defined as the emotional connection between people and places. The location of public open space that is strategically located in the city center makes this open space as an area that has a strong pull activity. However, the attraction has not been developed optimally yet. The southern corridor of Malioboro street is one of the public spaces that has activities which are quite high but there are differences in the pattern of distribution of visitor activity on both sides.
This research used qualitative method with the aim at explaining the effect of the distribution of visitors to the sense of place at the southern corridor of Malioboro street. Place centered mapping was used to map and identify the distribution of visitors, while to know the visitors�s perception of the sense of place using a questionnaire involving 30 respondents. In the process of analysis, a quantitative approach was used as a handle in processing the primary data of questionnaire results obtained from the field would be analyzed using tabulation data method in the form of a percentage, then synthesized the results obtained by measurements using a Likert scale with scoring first so that the results obtained would then be summarized descriptively.
The results showed linkage distribution of visitors in tendency to select the place to do some activities affected Sense of place. Besides activity, physical attributes associated with the availability of street furniture, achievement, comfort, and sense of place as well as providing role-forming aspects of sense of place. The result findings showed the contribution of passive activity was quite high in this place causing activities quality decreased and indirectly impacted on the sense of place which it was in the medium range. |
