ETD Synthesis of Zn-Al-amoxicillin hydrotalcite by anion exchange has been studied. The aim of this research was to synthesize and characterize Zn-Alamoxicillin hydrotalcite by anion exchange. Kinetics, capacity of anion exchange and regeneration process of Zn-Al-amoxicillin hydrotalcite were studied. The Zn- Al-NO3 hydrotalcite was first synthesized by coprecipitation method followed by hydrothermal treatment at 100 °C for 15 h. The nitrate was later exchanged with amoxicillin to yield Zn-Al-amoxicillin hydrotalcite. The Zn-Al-amoxicillin hydrotalcite was characterized using XRD and FTIR. Characterization using XRD showed that the basal spacing d003 of Zn-Alamoxicillin was 12.74 �. The FTIR spectra suggested that vibration of COOgroup was observed at 1458 cm-1 and 1520 cm-1, C-N and δ N-H at 1258 cm-1, and C-O at 1111 cm-1 and 1034 cm -1. The optimum condition for anion exchange was obtained at contact time 120 min and anion exchange capacity 100.7 meq/100 g hydrotalcite. The results showed that anion exchange reaction followed second order with reaction rate constant k of 2x10-3 s-1. Regeneration process of Zn-Alamoxicillin hydrotalcite with NO3 - could be done but not complete.
