Description
Summary:Poisoning has negative impacts on health and socio-economic. The poisoning victims number that increase annually impelling researches to identify toxic agents that cause poisoning and its association to patients characteristics. Pharmacoeconomic analysis is needed to determine the association between appropriateness of poisoning management and direct medical cost, as well as length of stay (LOS) as an outcome. This study used a cross sectional design and restrospective data collection method. The subjects were patients of RSUP dr. Soeradji Tirtonegoro Klaten and RSUP dr. Sardjito Yogyakarta from January 1st, 2011 until December 31st, 2013 who met the inclusion criterias (inpatients, poisoning as a primary diagnosis, with or without comorbidities and complications). Meanwhile, the exclusion criterias in this study were patients who died because of poisoning, referred to other hospitals, as well as patients who went home before any clinical improvement. The study results showed that toxic agents include snake venoms, insecticides, drugs, food, hydrocarbons, alcohols, clothes fragrance and clothes bleach. Most of poisoning patients at RSUP dr. Soeradji Tirtonegoro were lived in Klaten, while being treated at RSUP dr. Sardjito were lived in Sleman. Their age were 15-64 years old (teenagers and adults), male, low education, working as a student, and Jamkesmas as financing source in medical treatment. The Chi-Square test results showed that patients characteristics have correlation to toxic agents, include age (p=0,027), education (p=0,029), and patients occupation (p=0,002). Meanwhile, poisoning therapy management appropriateness has no correlation to direct medical cost efficiency (p=0,292), as well as length of stay (LOS) (p=0,188).
