Keeping birds as klangenan in Javanese culture has been conducting for many years initated by Perkutut (Geopelia striata striata) but in present time, birds for klangenan develope wider and more varies than its beginning. Many song-birds had been caught in some areas in Java, Sumatra and Kalimantan, distributed and then traded for klangenan in some market places. This research was conducted to understand thingking pattern of Javanese community in Semarang area and Solo area, Central Java Province, to explain consumption pattern and also to identify some indications that potentiallyimpacted to bird species sustainability. The research implemented etnography approach using snowball method sampling in depth interview with informers categorized as catchers, hobbiests, traders and breeders or combination of two or more categories. Data processed qualitatifely to obtain relation of meanings of klangenan and its results were explained descriptively. The research describes that Copsycus and Chloropsis taxas are favourite as klangenan birds. Keeping these birds as klangenan to get satisfaction, to obtain marem or to feel at ease with them is highly influenced by values or minds developed in community related to song birds performance such as sound volume and song variations, melody and also style. High-price disparity of song birds in source areas compare to goal areas, its demand elasticity and also social interactions among communities in Central Java are contributed factors to wide and to ease mind pattern and finally consumption pattern of song-birds as klangenan included master birds as its supporting performance. Song-birds and master-birds for klangenancaught are definetely males or dominant males, they are kept individually and most of them will terminate their life in cages without any opportunity to breed. It indicates that klangenanhas some risks to birds sustainability. Managing of song-birds consumed by community is urgently required to prevent population loss locally.
