| Summary: | One of the most important function of BPA (Banking and Payments
Authority of Timor Leste is monitoring, including monitoring towards circulation
of counterfeit money in the community. A survey counduted in 2008 � 2010 in
Timor Leste on the performance of BPA revealed that most of the community not
satisfeid with the quality of monitoring done by BPA. These were caused by low
facilities and low qualities of human resources. Based on the above reasons, the
BPA focuses on monitoring and supervision towards circulation of the conterfeit
money as one of their important program by doing advocacy and information
dissemination regarding characteristic of the authenticity of American dollar to
the community in the whole territory of Timor Leste.
The research was done because there is an increasing amount of
counterfeit money circulated in Timor-Leste,in addition to find outbarriers faces
byBPAas aBankingAuthorityinmonitoring and preventingthe circulation
ofcounterfeit money. The data usedinthis study isthe primary
dataandsecondarydata. Primary dataobtained fromquestionnairesand
interviewswere observed, the secondary data obtainedfromthe work
unitcounterfeit(Counterfeit Unit, CurrencyOperationsDivision, Department
ofPayment, Banking andPaymentsAuthority ofTimor-Leste BPA) during the
period of 2008 to 2010. Toolsof analysis used are
descriptivecomparison(comparative).
The results showed that the role of monitoring and prevention of counterfeit
money during the period of the study are grouped into three aspects. (1) Aspects
ofthe role ofmonitoring andpreventionof counterfeit money, (2) Aspects
ofmonitoring capabilitiesandthe ability ofprevention ofcounterfeit money |
