Summary: | The need of thermal generation on fossil fuels with the amount of available dwindling and increasingly expensive, making the cost of production of electrical energy is increasing. Optimal power flow is one of solution to optimize the production costs while maintaining system security constraints. This study applies bat algorithm (BA) to solve OPF’s problem with active power generator, generator bus voltages, transformator tap ratio and capacitors injection is used as control variables. The effetiveness of the method is tested on IEEE 30 bus system case. Simulation results of IEEE 30 bus system with 2 injection capacitor (2 Q shunt) show that the proposed method can reduce the generation cost of 0.42 $/hour or by 0.05% compared with the genetic algorithm-tournament selection. Simulation results on the IEEE 30 bus system with 9 inejction capacitor (9 Q shunt) show that the proposed method can reduce the generation cost of 0.7 $/hour compared with genetic algorithm-design of experiment (GA-DOE). The simulation results on the Java-Bali 500 kV power system show that the proposed method is able to reduce the generation cost of Rp. 1,370,309,639.00/h or 19.73% compared with the prior optimization using operation data of PT. PLN (Persero). |
